Our Month in Ecuador- Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge & Reserve
After our volunteer work was complete in Ecuador, we spent a long weekend experiencing the country’s natural beauty at Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge and Reserve. A cloud forest is a type of rain forest at a high altitude, generally between 3,000 and 8,000 feet, which keeps the area cooler. Lower temperatures slow water evaporation, which leaves an almost constant layer of mist and fog hanging in the forest. Cloud forests are rich in wildlife and plant life, especially epiphytes. Epiphytes include ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids which grow on trees in the cloud forest. In addition to incredible plant life, Bellavista is a designated Area of International Importance for Birds and home to over 500 species of birds.
Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing our incredible experience in the cloud forest.
