Buxton Surf Break

"You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." ~Jon Kabat-Zinn

The surfers come to Buxton for the break.   They love the way the sandbars line up creating magical waves of all different sizes and strengths.  I go to Buxton for the view.  Look north and you'll likely see an empty stretch of beach, maybe a beachcomber who braved climbing the high dunes to find a quiet spot on the beach.  Look south and see the houses built on quicksand, waiting for the big one that will eventually take them away.  Life on Hatteras Island moves slower.  Time doesn't seem to matter as much.  The locals live and breathe by the tide, sometimes dangerous, sometimes magical, but ever changing.
