Now that we’re friends, call me Jenny 💛

Born and raised in Virginia Beach, now you’ll find me wandering the beaches of Hatteras Island and the mountains surrounding Seattle with my camera in hand.

What I love most about photography is the ability to take a viewer with me on a journey and to make them feel like part of the adventure. I love photographing the way that I experience the world and sharing it with others who might not be able to visit the locations that I have been lucky enough to see. My love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, I feel the most inspired when I am outside, letting the calm and quiet surround me as I connect with my surroundings. Through photography, I have found a way to express how I feel when I am immersed in nature.

How it all startedâ€Ķ.

Way back in 2003, I started taking photographs of local sights and landmarks to hang on my walls. When the photos outnumbered the walls, Jennifer Carr Photography was born. I’ve done it all - art shows, portraits, weddings, newsborns, commercial branding, real estate workâ€Ķ..you name it, I’ve probably photographed it! Along the way, I found my true passion- helping others with their photography. As a self taught photographer, I know the challenges (and time!) it takes to fumble through learning to use a camera. And I know the frustrations you have once you’ve gotten the technical down and your images still feel bleh. Through 8+ years of photography mentoring and hosting more than a dozen retreats, I’ve helped over 300 photographers find their way to more confidence, more skill, and most importantly- more joy.

I have a long history of working with people - ringing up bananas at our local grocery chain, line dancing at Lonestar while waiting tables, and helping people find jobs as a human resources exec. While the industries are all different, the thing they have in common is helping others along their journey. My dad likes to tell the story of when I was choosing a college major and I whined “I just want to help people, Daddy.” Those words hold true today.

Things I’d tell you if we were chatting over coffee

First, I’d probably say I wish this were a glass of Syrah. Then I’d probably ask how you like you pizza. Because those who know me best, know I’m always planning what we’re eating next. I’d ask you how the sunrise made you feel that morning and what your dream spot to watch the sunset would be. I’d invite you on some sort of adventure where you’d have to get up at an annoyingly early time, walk uphill on a trail or through sand carrying a backpack with your favorite cameras and lenses. You’d groan and tell me I’m crazy until the final destination revealed itself and you were left speechless. And then we’d smile and head back down the trail to the lunch I promised would be waiting for you- and you’d ask when we could do it again.

I’m totally in love withâ€Ķ
