Discovering New Plants in California

Callistemon a.k.a. the Bottlebrush Tree

Callistemon a.k.a. the Bottlebrush Tree

When we arrived in California in the dead of winter, it was colder and rainier than we had anticipated. But it didn’t take long for the flowers to start emerging into an early spring. My favorite surprise has to be the Bottlebrush Tree which grows by the dozens surrounding our apartment complex. These trees are pruned high which makes photographing them challenging… unless you stand on the second floor with a 400 mm lens.
