Weekend Fun | Volunteering with All Hands and Hearts
Everyone knows that all work and no play gets you no where, which is why volunteers with All Hands and Hearts are encouraged to explore the communities they are working in during their weekends off. Having never traveled to the US Virgin Islands, I was excited to explore. Getting around St. Thomas wasn't the easiest without a car, so we opted to take the ferry boats and visit the neighboring islands. Our first weekend was spent at Water Island, a tiny little island with a tiny little beach that was about the most peaceful spot you could imagine. The day was mostly overcast, but we relaxed on the shoreline, swam with the turtles, and sipped on fruity drinks. Our day exploring Frenchman Bay in St. Thomas was filled with cloud and drizzle. The cruise port was quiet and the sidewalks were mostly empty.
The highlight of our weekend fun was a day trip to St. John. Less populated and home to the US Virgin Islands National Park, St. John is a beautiful delight. Had there not been work to do, I might have been tempted to spend the week camping on the beach.
