Wildflowers at West Tiger Mountain

Wildflowers on the summit of West Tiger, Tiger Mountain State Forest, July 2023

Last summer I completed my first solo hike to the summit of West Tiger. I had heard about a wildflower superbloom so I figured what better place to get out on the trail on my own. Just a short drive from Seattle, Tiger Mountain is easily accessible and incredibly popular. This is not exactly an easy hike with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain over 3 miles for a 6 mile round trip hike. This trail is incredibly popular but was quiet for my week day hike.

The climb is mostly wooded offering cool shade even in the summer heat. The trees clear just before the summit to reveal incredible views of the city, Puget Sound, and Mount Rainier in the distance. But on this day, the real view was of the incredible wildflower superbloom.

Far exceeding my expectations, the flowers were abundant and seemed to be at peak bloom. Wild daisies, foxglove, and tiger lilies grew in patches and clusters, pushing their way through downed trees and unforgiving soil.
